Brazil registers largest illegal timber seizure in its history
The Brazilian Federal Police announced the largest seizure of illegal timber in the history of the country. An operation located over 43,700 logs in several deforested points in the state of Pará - an estimated volume of 131,000 cubic meters, which could be be even higher, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the state of Amazonas.
According to a report by Agência Brasil, the police found the timber as a result of another arrest in November of 3,000 cubic meters of wood on a raft in Parintins (AM), close to Pará border.
