UN: Goals presented by Brazil and 74 other countries to stop climate change are insignificant
An analysis made by the UN indicates that the goals presented by 75 countries, including Brazil, for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 are below the established goals and asked the countries to present a new version of the plan. The commitment proposed by the countries - which together represent 30% of the planet’s greenhouse gas emissions - reduce a meager 0.5% of emissions.
In 2020, the goals presented by the Brazilian Minister of the Environment were the target of complaints from environmentalists. According to an analysis by the Climate Observatory, the plan presented by Ricardo Salles started from an inadequate calculation to update the targets proposed in 2015, in the Paris Agreement, allowing Brazil to emit a greater volume of greenhouse gases than the original target.
