Illegal gold diggers burn houses during attack against a Mundukuru village
Illegal gold diggers attacked the Munduruku village village Fazenda Tapajós in the municipality of Jacareacanga, southwest Pará state, as a retaliation against Operation Mundurukânia, which was launched by the Federal Police on May 25, the day before the attacks on Fazenda Tapajós.
Maria Leusa Kaba Munduruku, coordinator of the Munduruku Wakoborũn Women’s Association, had her house burned down. After the attack, the miners threatened to move on to the village of the leaders Ademir Kaba and Ana Poxo, who also fight against the mining activity in the territory.
