While visiting Brazil’s most indigenous city, Bolsonaro doesn’t wear a mask and disrespects indigenous culture

While visiting São Gabriel da Cachoeira, known as the most indigenous municipality in Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro mocked indigenous medicine and walked around the city without a mask. The visit happened while Indigenous Lands are under attack by illegal gold diggers, which he supports.

He equated his defense of ineffective “precocious” treatments for Covid-19, which is under investigation by the House of Representatives, to indigenous traditional medicine.

Bolsonaro also for “invented” a new ethnicity the “balaios”, while speaking about the residents of the Balaio Indigenous Land, inhabited mostly by the Tukano people.
