Yanomami indigenous people face attacks by armed illegal gold diggers without state protection

For over than a month now, inhabitants of the Yanomami Indigenous Land in Roraima state have been under attack by armed gold diggers and are still waiting for state protection.

The leader David Kopenawa, vice president of the Hutukara Yanomami Association, reports that even after the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety authorized, on the 14th, the deployment of the National Public Security Forces in the Indigenous Land, the Army and the Federal Police have not yet arrived.
