House of Representatives approves urgency for “Land Grabbing Bill”
The proposal, defended by the agribusiness caucus, and dubbed the “Land Grabbing Bill” by its critics, has been at the center of protests by environmentalists and the indigenous movement for providing amnesty and encouraging the theft of public lands, seriously threatening protected areas and indigenous territories.
Despite the haste of the president of the House, Arthur Lira, to vote on the project, the voting will only take place after the parliamentary break, which will last until early August.
