IPCC: Without immediate change, climate collapse might be close

Global warming is a happening and is caused by human action, extreme weather events have intensified and, if nothing is done, collapse is imminent. These are some of the points made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its sixth report, which had great repercussions in the national and international press for its alarming news. The document, prepared by over 234 authors, with the support of 517 collaborators, and approved by 195 governments, is considered to be a kind of “scientific encyclopedia” on global climate change, a guideline of excellence for the creation of public policies worldwide.

According to scientists, of the 1.09°C increase in the earth’s temperature observed between 2011 and 2020 compared to the pre-industrial period (1850-1900), 1.07°C probably comes from deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels caused by mankind. At this rate, the report indicates that the world could reach or exceed 1.5°C of warming in the next two decades.

As the portal ClimaInfo clarified, “the IPCC’s statements always have some indicator of probability, which has made critics call out the panel for ‘conservatism’ and ‘facilitating the work of deniers’, so that’s why the current report, that is so assertive, is so worrisome”.
