Funai president becomes defendant in lawsuit for misconduct

Marcelo Xavier, president of the National Indian Foundation (Funai), became a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the Federal Public Prosecution (MPF) for failing to comply with judicial measures of an agreement that requires the agency to advance with the demarcation of the Munduruku territory in Santarém, Pará state.

In total, the president of Funai has failed to comply with six decisions of the Federal Court, which constitutes an act of misconduct for delaying or failing to practice an official act, violating the principles of public administration,” indicates the news on the MPF website

Xavier is a delegate of the Federal Police (PF) and assumed the presidency of Funai in July 2019. His career in the corporation, which began in 2008, is marked by two internal investigations for misconduct.
